From Ho Chi Minh’s fictional Diary:

20 February 1926
Canton, China

Yesterday we celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Chinese republic’s successful revolution against the Manchu. A lot of people were there including Chiang Kai-shek, president of the Kuomintabg Nationalist Party’s Whampoa Military Academy. Chiang is building great power through the military. This makes me suspicious of him when he claims to expouse communism.

In 1911, the Chinese revolution against Manchu supremacy established a reformist regime with Sun Yat-sen as provisional president. In 1912, Sun reluctantly resigned in favor of the northern military leader, Yuan Shikai; Sun became director of the Kuomintang Nationalist Party after its founding in 1912. By 1914, Yuan had essentially become a dictator.

In 1923, Sun sent Chiang Kai-shek to Moscow to study political organization. The Soviet Union subsequently supported the Kuomintang by sending a mission in 1924 under the military expert, Mikhail Borodin. During this period, the Kuomintang included communists, but with Sun’s death in 1925, Chiang took control of the Kuomintang. During his 1926 Northern Expedition military campaign, Chiang attacked the communists and assumed full control of the Kuomintang.
